Dismantling Disempowerment

  • Bugbee Senior Center 262 North Main Street White River Junction, VT, 05001 United States (map)

A talk, discussion and ceremony led by activist and spiritual guide Carolyn Griffeth. 7:00 - 9:00 PM. All are invited to come early for a potluck dinner at 6:00.

Carolyn serves the birthing of the new world as an activist, spiritual guide, ceremonialist, and tender of emergent spiritual communities.   She is the founder and lead teacher of Earth Keeper Wisdom School, which explores the power of community and ceremony in service to personal and social change, and a spiritual minister at Inpower Institute, a center for black cultural healing in St. Louis.

In the tradition of one of her core teachers, Joanna Macy, founder of the Work that Reconnects, Carolyn describes our times in terms of two competing stories:

The “Great Unraveling,” which witnesses the destruction of ecosystems and unviability of our economic and social systems and concludes we are doomed.

And the “Great Turning,” which witnesses this destruction alongside the great movements by which a life-sustaining society rooted a new consciousness of interconnection is being born.

Part of the Great Turning is a new understanding of power, moving from the disempowering paradigm of power-over, to the experience of power together through rebuilding relationship within the human community as well as with the more than human world.

This gathering will utilize group work and ceremony to generate collective power and to align with the creative force of the universe that supports us as we act for Life and Justice.
